Assistant Directors of Special Education Maryann Johnson and Morgan Witman, M.Ed.
What sets Agora apart from other online schools is the level of synchronous learning and the amount of live special education services we provide, whether that be learning, life skills, emotional, autistic, or multiple disabilities support. All students receiving special education services are offered synchronous classes and receive consistent instruction facilitated by a special education educator. In addition to core content classes, our students who are determined eligible for alternate state and local assessments have the opportunity to receive additional live instruction to build their functional, daily living, transition, and social skills needs.
Our Multiple Disabilities Support program students are offered the following:
- Students receive individualized and/or small group functional math and reading skills embedded into daily living skills along with added related service supports aimed at developing communication, behavioral skills, motor skills, and sensory stimulation.
- Students aged 14 years or older in grades 7-12+ receive a weekly transition live session facilitated by a special educator throughout the year.
- The additional support of a Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, BSC/BCBA and/or PCA/IA as a related service may be provided per the student’s IEP.
A student’s programming is driven by their IEP and highly individualized to help each student reach their highest potential at Agora and after graduation! From students with learning disabilities to those with significant behavioral/medical needs, Agora finds creative ways to reach students where they are and help them grow. We are #AgoraProud of our special educators and students!
