Since joining Agora in 2019, Autumn has used the flexibility of online learning to do more than just keep up — she’s made a real difference for others along the way.
From tutoring peers and supporting veterans, to serving as editor‑in‑chief of the high school paper and participating in PBIS and National Honor Society, Autumn has embraced every opportunity to grow, give back, and lead. 💙
Thanks to Agora’s personalized approach, she’s taken honors and AP classes she loves, explored her passion for helping others, and even earned college credits through dual enrollment — all while completing high school early and preparing for her future.
“Agora has given me the flexibility to use my time meaningfully — for my education and for my community.”
We’re proud of Autumn, her ambition, and her #AgoraProud family. Stories like hers remind us what’s possible when students are empowered to learn their way. ✨
Autumn: Embracing the Agora Difference to Make Her Own Difference for Others
There’s no end to the list of ways students utilize the scheduling flexibility offered by Agora. From taking extra time to study and practice sports or music to helping around the house and getting out to breathe in fresh air, students appreciate the ability to manage their own time when classes aren’t in session. Early on, Autumn, who became part of the Agora family in 2019, decided she would do her best to use the extra time—time she never had in her brick-and-mortar school—in the most meaningful ways possible. And for her, “meaningful” means supporting her own education and growth while doing good for the people and community around her.
“If you’re done with your work early in a brick-and-mortar school, you have to just sit there,” said Autumn, who lives in North Philadelphia. “But Agora has given me so much flexibility with my time that I can get involved in meaningful activities. Through my National Honor Society chapter, I’ve made cards for veterans who didn’t have family during the holidays, tutored other students, and helped judge the elementary science fair at Agora.”
And that’s not all. A student well-known for her ambition, Autumn is also working on creating an ad for peer tutoring so more students can get help, exploring her interest in art, serving as the editor-in-chief of the high school paper, acting as a core team member for the Agora Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS), and handling responsibilities at home.
The role Agora’s flexibility and individualized approach play in each student’s education isn’t lost on Autumn either. She’s embraced many opportunities to pursue topics she loves that, once again, she feels will contribute to her taking a meaningful path in school and the life that follows.
“You also have so many more options for classes at Agora, too. I’ve chosen to take many that I love, like Honors chemistry, and Honors American literature. My Sociology, AP U.S. Government and Politics classes have also been great because I want to help people. These classes show me how things work and how I can help make a difference.”
Even as a junior, Autumn continues to appreciate her early experiences at Agora. She also shares her story whenever possible to help students and families considering a cyber charter school make the best choice for them.
“It’s such an easy transition, especially thanks to live classes, even for kids who haven’t gone to a cyber school before. And everyone at Agora is so welcoming. All the teachers are nice and supportive. Everything just clicks. Starting in elementary school I had so many options to get involved, and I did everywhere I could—art, cooking, coding, and even a spelling bee competition.”
Agora has also become a family affair for Autumn. “I am very proud of my younger sister who has embodied the Agora legacy and values. She has taken multiple high school classes in middle school, participates in the Middle School Ambassadors and PBIS teams, leads clubs, tutors peers, and pursues new opportunities every day. My youngest sister is in kindergarten, and we hope she can have a bright and successful journey at Agora as well. Being part of this school community has meant so much to us, and we are proud to be an #AgoraProud family, grateful for the opportunities that have shaped who we are and who we hope to become.”
As mentioned before, Autumn is extremely ambitious about her education and directing a fulfilling future for herself. Although she is only in her junior year, she will be graduating at the end of this school year. Having recognized her drive and abilities, Agora counselors worked closely with Autumn when she requested more classes. They also helped her to explore the option of dual enrollment. It turns out that Agora offering the opportunity for dual enrollment was, indeed, the right choice for Autumn. While she completes her high school education at Agora, Autumn is taking classes virtually at Point Park University. She will graduate from Agora already having credits for two college courses to apply to her higher education journey.
“My goal is start at community college and then transfer to a larger university like Temple so I can explore my interests and decide on a major. I would like to pursue a career focused on helping people, fixing policies, and creating sustainable change. I also hope to use my art to spread important messages and make a positive impact on others. My classes at Agora have really driven my post-secondary interests and I’m excited for the future.”
Based on all that Autumn has set her sights on, and already achieved during her six years with Agora, we have no doubt that she will continue to uplift communities and positively impact the lives of others.
