Agora Cyber Charter School’s Counseling Department provides a comprehensive program that enhances personal, social-emotional, academic and career development for all students, from kindergarten through 12th grade. It is the counselor’s goal to focus on individual student planning, carefully considering the unique needs of the diverse Agora community.
Our Pennsylvania state-certified school counselors assist students at all levels, from elementary school through high school and into postsecondary options. They advocate for the students’ well-being and are valuable resources for their educational advancement. School counselors meet the needs of the students via live programming, workshops, crisis/prevention/intervention, individual meetings, and small and large groups. Many of the school counselors have been trained in Youth Mental Health First Aid and serve on Agora’s Student Assistance Program (SAP) team. As the first trauma-informed cyber school in the nation, the school counselors along with all Agora staff are trained in trauma response—and yet it is the counselors who man a weekday crisis prevention room.
Welcomed members of the school counseling community, our team has shared their online educational expertise at the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Conference in 2015 and 2018, and the Pennsylvania School Counselor Association (PSCA) Conference in 2018 and 2019. In 2020, Agora counselors presented the session “School Counseling in an Online World,” for ASCA to assist brick-and-mortar school counselors globally in transitioning to an online setting.
